The Limitations of AI
Welcome to the Real Estate Espresso Podcast, your morning shot of what’s new in the world of real estate investing. I’m your host Victor Menasce. On today’s show, we’re talking about how to best use artificial intelligence (AI) in your daily business.
AI is not proficient at producing a finished work product that you’d be happy to deliver to a customer. There may come a time when that is true. But today, if you’re delivering something of significant value, you need to contribute at least a portion of that work yourself. I’ve yet to encounter a scenario where an AI tool was able to take a project from inception to completion all in one step. Despite the technology being new and appearing very capable on the surface.
I attempted to use Gemini and their new image generation tool to create a birthday invitation for my wife’s upcoming birthday. It should have been a simple task. I provided some photographs of my wife as a starting point and awaited the tool’s creative input. The first birthday invitation was unimpressive and so amateurish, I immediately discarded it. I realized that I needed to provide better instructions. My second attempt elicited two ideas based on one of the photos that I uploaded as a starting point. The output was a png file, which is hard to modify. Unfortunately, the tool had incorrectly spelled my wife’s name. Despite several attempts to correct this error, the tool consistently failed
Strategically asking for line deletion and providing the correct text seemed to trigger the spelling correction. A new issues surfaced when I realized the invitation date was difficult to read due to its low contrast with the photo. My requests to shift the text higher for easy readability were not honored by the tool. Also, the mentioned dress code requiring casual attire was contrary to my wife’s expectations, so I requested a change to semi-formal. The change was implemented but inadvertently duplicated a word on the same line. Yet another request to remove the duplicate word was unfruitfully met with an apology. Again, only deleting and replacing the entire line solved the issue. While the dress code was corrected, the new text was in a different font size compared to the rest of the invitation.
After nearly 30 minutes, I had made minimal progress. With each iteration of the invitation, the image quality continued to degrade. I decided to abandon my efforts and instead used a simple image editor to finalize the invitation. In just four minutes, I was able to complete a birthday invitation that was printable and ready to send. Retrospectively, I had wasted half an hour relying on AI for the final product.
The true value of the AI tool was in expediting the creative process as a brainstorming tool. Further steps were burdensome, wasteful, and best avoided. My experience in October 2025, hopefully, serves as a lesson. Remember, when it’s evident that the final product can be completed manually in a matter of minutes, it’s more efficient to stick with old, but reliable editing methods. Have an awesome rest of your day, go make some great things happen. We’ll talk to you again tomorrow.
